On behalf of the Korean American Social Work Educators Association (KASWEA) Board of Directors and the SSWR Outreach Committee, it is with great honor and enthusiasm that we welcome you to the 2025 KASWEA-KIHASA Joint Virtual Seminar. This special event, held during the 2025 SSWR Annual Conference in Seattle, WA, exemplifies the spirit of collaboration and innovation that drives our shared commitment to advancing global research and practice in social work and allied fields.

This year’s KIHASA-KASWEA joint seminar, themed "Strategies for Promoting and Activating International Collaborative Research," serves as a crucial platform for exploring both the technical and administrative aspects of joint international research. It also fosters an invaluable exchange of ideas, strategies, and solutions that will enhance the collective impact of KASWEA and KIHASA’s work.

We are thrilled to engage with a dynamic group of panelists, researchers, and practitioners whose expertise and passion for fostering global partnerships are truly inspiring. Your contributions will help pave the way for new research opportunities, funding initiatives, and innovative collaborations that address critical social challenges worldwide.

Special thanks go to the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs (KIHASA) for their dedicated efforts in advancing international research and for their insightful presentation. This contribution will undoubtedly serve as a cornerstone for our discussions and pave the way for actionable insights.

안녕하십니까?

한국보건사회연구원과 한미사회복지교육자협회가 함께 하는 “2025년 KASWEA-KIHASA Joint Seminar”에서 다시 뵙게되어 매우 반갑습니다.

아쉽게도 모든 구성원이 직접 대면하여 보다 풍성하게 논의하고 정을 나누기 어려운 지구 반대편에 위치하고 있지만, 우리들은 각 국의 사회복지와 보건 부문 연구에 대한 학술적, 정책적 열정, 그리고 사회적 기여를 위한 분투의 모습이 닮아 있습니다. 또한 대한민국의 발전과 함께 모든 국민과 재외동포의 안녕을 염려하고 보다 나은 삶의 여건을 위해 보건‧복지 정책과 실천을 높여가려는 소망과 노력은 같은 방향으로 일치합니다.

이러한 공통점에 기반하여, 지난 2023년 7월, 본 원에서 개최한 “재외 한인학자 초청 세미나(2023.7.20.)”를 계기로, 우리 원과 한미사회복지교육자협회(KASWEA)는 MOU를 체결하였습니다(2023.10.27. Memorandum of Understanding concerning Academic Cooperation between KIHASA and the Korean American Social Work Educators Association, USA). 이어서 작년 7월 다시 “2024 KASWEA-KIHASA Joint Seminar(2024.7.3. 마음 건강에 주목한 보건·복지 서비스와 정책적 과제, Emotional and Psychological Mental Health and Welfare Services: Policy Challenges)”를 개최하였습니다.

MOU를 통해 우리 원과 재외 한인학자들 간의 연구와 협력을 강화하기 위해 운영하기로 한 “재외 한인학자 연구협력체”는 해외의 한인학자분들께 우리 원의 연구성과를 공유하고 연구 협력의 기회를 활성화하여, 상호 연구 수준을 제고하며, 국가간 비교정책 연구 등 사회정책 연구 활성화에 기여하자는 방향과 포부로 출발하였습니다.

이번 세미나는 그동안 함께 뜻을 모아 온 연구 협력의 일환으로서, "국제 협력 연구 촉진과 활성화를 위한 전략"을 주제로 개최하게 되었습니다.

오늘은 여느 세미나에서 다루었던 보건과 사회복지의 학술적 주제와는 다른, 보다 나은 연구 여건 마련에 기여할 유익한 논의가 이루어질 것으로 기대됩니다.

오늘의 시간을 통해, 그간 탁월한 업적을 쌓아 오신 한미사회복지교육자협회 회원 교수님들과 국책연구기관인 한국보건사회연구원의 연구자들이 각자의 자리에서, 상호 교류와 협력을 통해 교육, 연구, 실천의 경험과 기여를 높여가실 수 있기를 기대합니다.

무엇보다 세미나의 개최를 가능하게 해주신, KASWEA의 김숙희 회장님과 회원 교수님 여러분의 적극적인 협력에 깊은 감사의 말씀 전합니다.
